I advocate for the health, safety, and reproductive freedom for all Hoosier women and I support women’s rights to obtain health care without government interference.
For as long as I can remember, our Indiana lawmakers have tried to restrict women’s rights to reproductive choice with the claim of trying to reduce the number of abortions. I also want to see the number of abortions decrease, but restricting women’s healthcare access will not lead to a reduced number of abortions. Rather, it will lead to a reduced number of safe abortions.
Year after year Indiana passes laws restricting women’s health care choices and these laws are litigated at taxpayer expense and are inevitably found to be unconstitutional. Instead, the focus should be on preventing unwanted pregnancies by:
- increasing access to birth control and family planning education.
- making sure that women have access to affordable healthcare and affordable daycare.
- encouraging corporations to provide paid maternity leave.
Legislators have no place in the exam room. We must trust women to make the best decisions about their healthcare and fight to protect and improve access to reproductive healthcare for every Hoosier here in Indiana.
